FEDERAL MATERIALS COMPANY RECEIVES NRMCA EXCELLENCE IN TRAINING AWARD

PADUCAH, KY – Federal Materials Company recently received Third Place in Category C for the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association Excellence-in-Training Award for 2008. Category C represents companies that reported production less than 500,000 yards for 2007.

“The benefits of employee training raise the standard for the entire ready mixed concrete industry,” said Eileen Dickerson, managing director of education for the NRMCA.
The NRMCA annually recognizes ready mixed concrete producers’ participation in the NRMCA training and certification programs.

“We proudly utilize the programs offered by the NRMCA to better train our employees,” said Chris Bright, president of Federal Materials Company. “In today’s competitive environment, their development is essential for the sustainability and advancement of the ready mixed concrete industry.”

ENGLISH JOINS FEDERAL MATERIALS COMPANY

PADUCAH, KY – Tim English recently joined the Construction Products Department of Federal Materials Company as Sales and Warehouse Coordinator.

“Tim understands the importance of providing friendly, prompt and accountable customer service,” said Chris Bright, president of Federal Materials Company. “We are excited to welcome him to our team.”

English is married to Amy and they have three daughters.

CRASS CHANGES TITLE, RESPONSIBILTIES

PADUCAH, KY – Amy Crass has been named Human Resource Manager for Federal Materials Company. She will be responsible for hiring personnel, managing employee health benefits, preparing payroll and all other human resource related issues.

Crass previously managed all daily office and accounting responsibilities, as well as human resource functions. She will continue to order office supplies and equipment, as well as handle IT related issues until further notice. Except for payroll, the accounting department will handle all accounting functions.

“Amy will now be able to completely focus on the most important aspect of our company – our people,” said Chris Bright, president of Federal Materials Company. “We are please that she is willing to focus her attention on issues concerning our employees. Amy will drive our employee development programs, as well as coordinate employee training opportunities.”

FEDERAL MATERIALS COMPANY RECEIVES CIVIC BEAUTIFICATION AWARD

PADUCAH, KY – Federal Materials Company recently received the Annual Business of the Year Award presented by the Paducah Civic Beautification Board.

“This award was presented to five businesses that have made noticeable improvements that benefit our community,” said Flora Smith, President of the Civic Beautification Board.

“We decided to improve our landscape this past summer,” said Chris Bright, president of Federal Materials. “Our employees, summer interns and Lyles Landscaping all helped with our beautification project. We are thrilled to be recognized for our efforts.”

Other award recipients include Mentor House Gallery, Hotel Metropolitan, Edward Jones on Wayne Sullivan Drive and WKCTC.

FMC DONATES CONCRETE TO CALDWELL SCHOOLS

PRINCETON, KY –Federal Materials Company recently donated concrete to Caldwell County Schools to replace existing concrete at the Butler Campus and to construct a sidewalk connecting the middle school and high school.

“We are pleased that Federal Materials selected our projects in Caldwell County,” said Caldwell County Facilities Director Larry Curling. “The new sidewalk will provide added safety as our students walk from the middle school to the high school. The renovated sidewalks at the Butler Campus will not only beautify the grounds, but will make our grounds safer and more accessible.”

These proposed projects were selected by Federal Materials Company as part of the company’s School Concrete Donation Program. Nineteen school districts were invited to participate in the program. Federal Materials Company donates up to 50 cubic yards of concrete for new construction or renovated project needs. Schools in Calloway County, Livingston County and Hickman County were also awarded concrete donations.

“We support economic development in 19 counties across western Kentucky and northwest Tennessee,” said Chris Bright, president of Federal Materials Company. “We want our donation efforts to support the educational systems in these counties. Whether constructing new sites, beautifying current areas of campus or completely renovating existing concrete, we hope to provide students with better access to all amenities of their campus.”

SMITHLAND, KY –Federal Materials Company recently donated concrete to Livingston County Schools to improve playground, dumpster and handicap accessibility areas.

“We are pleased that Federal Materials selected our projects in Livingston County,” said Livingston County School Superintendent Ken Bargo. “The new basketball court at South Elementary will accommodate more students and the new entrance at our middle school will provide safer accessibility into the main building. The trash dumpster area at the high school has an improved look and the new sidewalk connecting the North Elementary building with the playground will provide an alternative walkway for students and will decease hallway distractions.”

CHASTAIN JOINS FEDERAL MATERIALS COMPANY

PADUCAH, KY – Grant Chastain recently joined Federal Materials Company as Warehouse Coordinator. He previously managed a products store for Metro Ready Mix in Hendersonville, TN.

WELCOMES SUMMER INTERNS

PADUCAH, KY – Senior high school students Clay Davis of Livingston Central High School, Dylan Murphy of Lone Oak High School and Chloe Thompson of Marshall County High School will spend the summer interning with Federal Materials Company.

“We are pleased that these students are interested in the concrete industry,” said Chris Bright, president and CEO of Federal Materials. “They will spend the summer engaged in all aspects of our business. From observing plant managers and daily operations to visiting job sites and interacting with customers, they will see first hand the importance of safety, experience and teamwork.”

Gary Thompson, operations manager at Federal Materials, said the internship will help prepare the students for college and help guide their future plans. “Our industry welcomes young and enthusiastic people. It’s never too early to learn a trade or get experience in a field,” said Thompson.

Davis, from Livingston County, is a member of the Livingston Central High School Basketball team, the Beta Club and Future Business Leaders of America. He plans to study business and finance at Murray State University. Davis enjoys fishing and spending time with friends.

Murphy, a Paducah native, is a member of the Lone Oak High School Football and Baseball teams. He plans to study engineering at the University of Kentucky in the fall of 2009. Murphy enjoys fishing with his grandfather and hopes to learn more about the management side of business.

Thompson, from Marshall County, is a member of the Photography Club, Health Occupations Students of America club and serves as VP of Finance for the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America club. She plays slow pitch softball and enjoys swimming and spending time with friends. Her college plans are undecided.

BROWN JOINS FEDERAL MATERIALS COMPANY

PADUCAH, KY – Josh Brown recently joined Federal Materials Company as Safety Director. Originally from Carlisle County, Brown holds a degree in Occupational Safety & Health from Murray State University.

Brown previously managed all safety operations at Harper Construction and brings plant safety experience from the Sherwin-Williams Manufacturing Plant in Dallas, TX. After serving six years with the Marine Reserves and one year in Iraq, Brown understands the need for continued training and operational pre-planning analysis to create a safe working environment.

“We are excited to welcome Josh to our team,” said Chris Bright, president of Federal Materials Company. “Providing a safe environment for our employees, customers and the community is our prime focus. PADUCAH, KY – Lynda Young recently joined Federal Materials Company as Maintenance and Materials Clerk. Young, a Paducah native, has 28 years of clerical and accounts payable experience from work in the medical and mechanical fields.

“We are pleased to have Lynda join our company,” said Chris Bright, president of Federal Materials Company. “Her ability to adapt her clerical skills to the ready mixed concrete industry is a great asset that will translate well with all aspects of our business.”

Young enjoys camping, hiking and kayaking with her husband, Michael. They have one daughter, Lyndsey, a political science Ph.D. candidate at Ohio State University, and two sons, Trent, a senior at Reidland High School, and Kurt, an eighth grader at Reidland Middle School.

FMC Employees ACI Certified!

FMC Mixer Operators Nicole Richard, Mark King, Kenneth Stufflebeam and Daniel Wheeler received their ACI Level 1 Certification to test concrete for quality control, quality assurance and verification on construction job sites. John McChord, KRMCA Engineer, instructed the ACI Level 1 Class, held May 22 at FMC. Local engineers and contractors also participated in this all-day class that included classroom instruction and field testing.

FMC DONATES CONCRETE TO CALLOWAY CO HS

MURRAY, KY – The Federal Materials Company recently awarded Calloway County High School 50 cubic yards of concrete to complete handicap accessible restrooms and handicap accessible sidewalks leading to the Lakers baseball and softball fields.

“We are pleased that Federal Materials Company selected our project at Calloway County High School,” said Calloway County School Superintendent Steve Hoskins. “With handicap accessible ball fields, we hope to provide safety and convenience for all students, parents and members of the community who attend, play and support our athletic programs.”

This proposed project was one of four selected by Federal Materials Company under the School Concrete Donation Program. Nineteen counties were invited to participate in the program, where Federal Materials Company donates up to 50 cubic yards of concrete for new construction or renovated project needs. HUMPHREY APPOINTED TO RFFD BOARD

PADUCAH, KY – David Humphrey, Sales Manager for the Federal Materials Company, has been appointed to the Reidland-Farley Fire Department Board of Trustees. Humphrey, a 14-year FMC employee, will assist RFFD on business related issues. Humphrey is Level I and II certified by the Kentucky Ready Mix Concrete Association. He serves on the KRMCA Promotion and Transportation committees, joins the new class of Leadership Paducah and coaches youth baseball. Humphrey and his wife, J.J., have three children, Dylan, 11, Victoria, 9, and Laylah, 4.
